Daft 1 Fall Series

Thesis: My project is on Zahir Batin.

Although most of Batin's photos were more daily life and humorous. I chose to represent less humor and daily life. I instead tried to go for a more serious tone. I also thought that taking some of the pictures inside would help the photos feel more serious. For my next draft, I will take more pictures outside to get more shots that are humorous and in daily life. My goal was to take Batin's style of toy photography, and add more emotion to it.

My recipe for this project is very simple.
Get in close to the subjects.
Use sedated colors for serious and sad photos.
Use vibrant colors for happy and daily life photos.
Small depth of field.
Keep subject in the middle of frame.

  3. I really find this work interesting. I've never seen anything like this before, it's quite awesome! I think you achieved your goal of emulating Zahir's work, but if there is one thing I had to critique I would say that the rock pictures got a little bit repetitive. My favorite photos were the ones in nature. Good job.

  4. These pictures are really good, I love how the environment looks to scale with them based on the area, and frame you put them in. These pictures require a lot of creativity, so great job!

  5. This collection of photos are really interesting. I love how each photo tells it own story. I would recomend that you change the environment in which you take the photos because the majority of the photos include rocks. I would also recomend that in the next draft you take even more clear photos. These are only sugestions for you. Keep up the great work.

  7. Hi Brannan. Your photos are really fun to look at. Based on your description and the research I did on the photographer that inspired your piece I truly believe that you did a great job. What is working is that the size of the figures looks life size. The figures body language is great aswell. Good work!
